Feature Post: Homeward Creative

Homeward Creative is a small yet unique independent based in York. The company was formed a while back by my buddy Dave and his partner Emma. These guys create the most amazing pieces out of wood. You'll find their current collection online at Homeward Creative

More about the brand... Our bespoke furniture and homeware is created from the abundance of reclaimed wood and materials found around our home in North Yorkshire. We believe that by giving wood that may otherwise end up in a landfill site a new lease of life, we can make one-off pieces that are full of character. We carefully select and treat all the materials we find, and take inspiration from the traditional art of woodworking and furniture making.

Check out these amazing pieces, all available online...

Morpheus Rap: Hannibal Buress

Seen The Eric Andre show? No? Why not?
The fact is... some of your won't like it, and some of you won't 'get' it. But, some of you will love it. This clip made K almost spit out her coffee. Watch 1 show... you'll either regret it, or you won't.

Seinfeld... It's All Over (again)!

TeamDK have been watching Seinfeld, a lot of Seinfeld. In fact, we managed to squeeze all 9 series' into just one month! That's a lot of episodes... 180 to be precise. Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm has been one of my favourite shows (perhaps my all time favourite show), and even though Larry created, wrote and produced many Seinfeld episodes, I really didn't think I'd like it. Oh, but I was so wrong. It was awesome. I can't believe we were 25 years late!

Jerry, George and Kramer killed it, but it was Elaine's dancing that made me laugh the most. And here she is... throwing some of her worst shapes. Enjoy... I did!

I So Wanna Watch This Movie...

As you know, we love movies here at TeamDK. Going to the cinema is one of our favourite pastimes, but Norwich doesn't have the greatest selection of cinemas. Yeah, we've got three, but they rarely show anything but the most mainstream of releases. We have to travel to either Cambridge or London to catch Indies, which kinda sucks.
There's one film I so wanna watch right now... What We Do In The Shadows
But, it looks like I'm gonna have to wait for the DVD release. Boo! If it's playing in a cinema near you, watch it. It looks hilarious. Check out the trailer here...

Team DK: In Search of The Perfect Bag

I needed a new bag. I really fancied a little vintage satchel, so I dragged D into town in search of the perfect bag.
So the adventure began...
We started our adventure with a quick bite to eat at the cute lil' Logan's Cafe - Norwich.
After our delicious sandwiches, we took to the streets. First stop - Goldfinches (located in the Norwich Lanes).
We found tons of cool stuff, but no bag!
Next, off to some charity shops.
Still no bag. We then headed to Norwich's famous market
to check out the vintage stalls.
After the market and at least a dozen other shops we
decided to take a little coffee break.
It was getting late, so we decided to head to
one more store - Dr. Martens.
And that's where I found her. What a beauty.
A little newer and a little more expensive than I originally anticipated, but well worth it.
All in all, a great day.

A Few Words Of Wisdom From Chuck

Team DK-oupage Letters

We love a joint craft project, so on one of our days off this week we headed over to HobbyCraft to get some craft inspiration. We saw all kinds of neat stuff, but decided to try a little decoupage. The only problem is... HobbyCraft is way over priced!!! So, like aways we headed over to the Range. The Range doesn't have the best selection of craft supplies, but it had everything we needed for this little project.

Here's what we used...
- 2 x cardboard letters (£1 each)
- 2 x old soft paint brushes
- Decoupage paper (£2.99)
- PVA Glue

We decided on a cute music themed paper for our letters.

Step 1. We cut our paper up into small random shapes ready for gluing.

Step 2. We painted a thin layer of glue onto the areas we wanted to cover. We then painted another thin layer of PVA over the paper to ensure it was secure.

Step 3. We repeated this process until one whole side was fully covered. We left our letters to dry for around 15 minutes, flipped them over and repeated the process.

Here are both mine and D's letters fully covered and dry. The entire process took around 45 minutes (includes drying time).

Have fun making your very own decoupage letters.

Oh Comely

(sung in the voice of Will Ferrell’s Robert Goulet)
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

I don’t really like any of those things. I don’t even have that many favourite things to be honest with you. But there is one thing I love Oh Comely Magazine. And the best thing is… I found it by accident.

I’m not a huge fan of magazines, especially lady mags. I find them so difficult to look at, let alone read! So, I one day found myself at a WHSmiths at Paddington Station - staring blankly at the magazine stand. All the brightly coloured pages were screaming at me. Free mascara, 962 slimming secrets, celebrities without make up - who cares? Not me! And then... I saw something poking out from behind the busy nonsense. The matt white paper was calling me. As soon as I touched its smooth finish, its heft, its potential... I was sold.

The long journey from London all the way back to Plymouth (oh boy, that’s a hoot of a train ride) became my favourite journey to date. The beautiful images, illustrations, stories and odd little features, I was fixated… I still am.

Every single time a new issue is on it’s way I get truly excited. For a time I subscribed. New issues would promptly arrive at my door, bringing with them such promise. But, these days… I’ve decided to go it alone. I roughly know when the next issue's on its way, and when that time arrives - I hit the streets (or WHSmiths to be precise - Smiths is one of the only shops that stock Oh Comely). There are two stores in Norwich, and I endlessly go between them, pushing every other publication aside in the hope of unearthing my prize. And I’m not lying… when I finally find that new issue, I get a little rush of excitement. I can’t wait to take it home.

It’s the stories I love the most.

If you’ve not read Oh Comely yet, you should.

I recently picked up some amazing jewellery from Lisa Angel, right here in Norwich. I'm not big on expensive jewellery... I much prefer well made junk jewellery. Below are my two latest acquisitions (both are still available at the on-line store).
